Paddy

July 17, 2007 - November 26, 2010

Hello, all -- As many of you already know, our Paddy was hit by a car on November 26th, 2010, and died instantly.   We made it to him minutes later, but I don’t think he knew we were there.

He loved to run and explore and be with his people (or anyone else for that matter).

Paddy was a perfect ambassador for the Irish breed and ‘boys’ everywhere.  He always was patient with little kids, we could always let a youngster take Paddy by the leash and walk him around the local square and know that he would be gentle and patient with the kid.

He was born on July 17th, 2007 from Gilda (CH Avon Farm Superstition) and Bagger (BIS BISS CH Galewinn's Spirit of Tramore) along with his 9 other siblings.

He came to us on October 6th, 2007 at 5:37 in the evening.  John Krueger had driven him from Sacramento California to our house in Colorado, stopping along the way for drinks, walks, side-by-side in the car munching burgers and fries.

His first experiences here were with his soul mate, Boots -- they sort of grew up together even though Boots did not grow so much.  An 8 pound mini-dachshund and a 65+ pound setter were a pretty good match.  They tended to do everything together, although later in life Paddy did have a slight weight advantage.  Later, when Boots had her first puppy, a singleton named Beanie, Paddy was certain that he was the daddy.

Pam, John, Penny, and even his brothers would come to visit every so often, making sure he was not being forgotten.  He was not forgettable!

As Paddy adjusted to our household, it did not take too long for him to realize that he was special -- nor did it take us very long to make sure he always got special treatment.  He was a gentle giant to everyone at home.

Paddy, often known as His Royal Highness, or HRH, because he was a very regal fellow.  He understood that he was top of the royalty around his house without having to prove it.  He was co-owned by Boots and a bunch of people who loved him very much -- he always gave back more love than he got.

He really liked going in the car -- actually, he liked going anywhere.

I miss the way he would dance around on his two hind legs trying to get us to go out to the cars -- obviously we were going somewhere, so let’s get going!  I have seen him do 3-4 full turns just waiting for us to open the car door.

Coming home I always was the ‘Most Important Person’ in the house.  At least until dinner time.

I miss the way he would jump up on the bed until we were settled and then go to his regular place on the floor beside Sandy’s side.

I miss the way he used to drink and then drool for 15-20 feet around the house.  It was often convenient to do his ‘face-wipe’ on my lap.

I miss the way he would always go in the lake before coming to bed.  This insured nice wet and sandy sheets.

I really miss the way he would stand up and put his paws on my shoulders to say ‘hi’ when I got home (always).  I think Pam taught him that.

Anyway, here is his Memorial slides.  They cannot fully capture HRH, but they will give you an idea of the love we all shared with him.

We miss him very much.
